Either one. It's built to sit in a drawer for years and work the day you need it, but there's nothing stopping you from using it camping, on a hike, or as your everyday backup. Just remember it only removes bacteria, protozoa, and microplastics, so it's not a replacement for treated tap water on a normal day.

No. The PureFlow straw is a mechanical microfilter; it removes bacteria, protozoa, and microplastics. Not viruses, chemicals, or heavy metals. We tell you that upfront because knowing your gear's limits matters as much as the gear itself. For viruses, pair it with purification tablets or UV treatment. For chemicals, you'd need activated carbon or reverse osmosis.
1,800 gallons, how long does that actually last?
At a gallon a day, the minimum recommended amount, that's nearly 5 years from a single straw. A family of four drinking a gallon each per day gets over a year from one straw, and most families keep more than one. Straws that cap out at 500 to 1,000 gallons give you a fraction of that.

How does 0.01 micron compare to other straws?
Most common straws filter down to 0.1 or 0.2 microns. PureFlow filters to 0.01 microns, 10 to 20 times finer. In a real emergency you're not drinking from a clean mountain stream, you're dealing with urban runoff, standing water, and ditches. Tighter filtration means fewer threats getting through.
How many should I buy for my family?
The rule is two is one, one is none. At a minimum, one per family member. Most prepared families order 3 to 5 to cover a bug-out bag, a get-home bag, a vehicle kit, and a home cache. Kids can carry their own too, the suction design is simple enough for supervised use.
What water sources can I use it with?
Rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, puddles, rainwater, and ditches, any freshwater source. Don't use it with saltwater or industrial chemical runoff.
Does it expire, and how should I store it?
